![]() ![]() What I've learned is that the key to an effective writing schedule is in it's practicality. That’s not a good place to operate for anyone, and it will be discouraging for you as you try to keep the discipline and momentum going.įrom the words of the wise Alessandro Tinchini, “If you maintain your discipline, you will succeed.”Īs a self-published author and experienced technical writer, I understand the importance of making time for writing. It will have you chugging along on fumes, and will discredit any type of progress you have made towards your writing, simply because you didn’t reach that unrealistic goal. Setting writing goals that are unrealistic is dangerous for your own productivity, and for your morale. If you try and meet someone else's daily quota, it will usually cause stress and disappointment. Then, on the days you can afford to make more time for writing or if you end up writing faster, you can increase that count to 750 words, and so on.įor all practical reasons, the best way to plan a writing schedule is to create it around your daily writing quota (amongst other things). This means that no matter how busy you are, you need to make time for writing at least 500 words. That 500-word a day writing quota will then need to become a non-negotiable every single day. And you're still expected to write 1,000 words a day? Yeah, right.īut, if amongst your life commitments, you can make time to write 500 words a day, then that's a lofty, yet attainable quota. This means you have kids to take care of, dinner to prepare, plus your commuting time – and then there's still soccer practice, and all the unexpected day-to-day things that pop up. To have someone say you must write 1,000 words a day to be able to reach your target is preposterous if your lifestyle doesn’t allow for that.įor instance, let’s say you're a working mom. If a recommended schedule doesn't fit your personal circumstances, then it's worthless. You may very well have traveled the web looking for the golden nugget to create a writing schedule that has worked for others.Īnd I'd say it's not uncommon to have found some awesome suggestions, methods, and plans, but… All opinions are my own.Ĭlipart used in the graphics within this post are © PentoolPixie and © StickerStop and © clipartland and were purchased on Etsy.A writing schedule that fits your lifestyle Just like her big brother.ĭisclosure: I'm a member of the Tom's of Maine Goodness Circle and receive products and compensation to share information with my readers. I love how she stands on her little tippy toes to check herself out in the mirror while brushing. Of course, this "big girl" thinks she can do it all on her own. They're soft and gentle, and perfectly sized for little hands to hold. I also love the Tom's of Maine children's toothbrushes. It's such a great stepping stone to ingrain those healthy habits. It's specially formulated for children 3 to 24 months and it's safe if swallowed. The fruit-flavored, clear gel gently cleanses the teeth and gums without harsh chemicals like SLS or propylene glycol. Their Toddler Training toothpaste is fluoride-free and has no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. I mentioned having the right products on hand, and one of the brands we love is Tom's of Maine. We lay out their clothing and gather their school items together the night before, discuss which book they want to read before bed during dinnertime, and always make sure they toothpaste and toothbrushes are within reach and ready to go. Who knew such a thing could wreak havoc on her life?! So, we try to think of the little things that will help keep our kids on task. If you have a toddler, you know that sometimes the smallest thing can throw him or her for a loop like handing her a purple cup instead of pink. They're perfect for toddlers and little readers alike.Īnother thing we've found that helps our kids stick with their daily routines is having the right products to make their "tasks" more enjoyable.
